1966
The Beatles perform the first of three concerts at Nippon Budokan Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Amateur recordings of the performance quickly became available as a bootleg album known as Three Nights in Tokyo.


1971
Paul Revere and the Raiders receive a gold record for their only #1 hit, "Indian Reservation".


1975
The Eagles' album, "One Of These Nights," goes gold.

1975
Gregg Allman and Cher get married. Ten days later, they separate. After an on again, off again marriage, they divorce in January 1979.


1976
Responding to a supposed report of burglary at Neil Diamond's house, police enter the singer's house with a search warrant. A 3-hour inspection turns up a grand total of less than one ounce of marijuana. It's so low key, Diamond gives several officers copies of his latest album, Beautiful Noise. His debut the next night at the new Alladin Theatre for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas goes on as planned.


1977
Marvel Comics issues the first of two comic books based on the costumed characters of the group Kiss. The red ink was reportedly mixed with small amounts of blood from each group member.


1978
The Sex Pistols' "My Way" is released.


1981
Forty-five year old Jerry Lee Lewis is rushed to Memphis Methodist Hospital to close a two centimeter hole in his stomach. Ten days later he will undergo surgery for internal bleeding. Johnny Cash joins "The Killer" in a moment of silent prayer at the latter's bedside. Lewis had less than a 50% chance of making it. He left the hospital in a few weeks.


1994
Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam testify before a congressional hearing concerning rising concert ticket prices.


1996
Neil Young premieres his album, Broken Arrow via the Internet. The album is slated for release on July 2, two days after its technologically advanced premiere.


1998
Ol’ Dirty Bastard, a.k.a. Big Baby Jesus, a.k.a. Russel Jones is shot in the back while at his girlfriend’s apartment during an attempted robbery. The wounds are deemed superficial, and the Wu-Tang Clan member checks himself out of the hospital a few days later.


1999
The "Eric Clapton and Friends" concert is held at Madison Square Garden in New York. Clapton performs with Sheryl Crow, Mary J. Blige and Bob Dylan. One of the shows highlights is a rendition of "Crossroads" by Clapton and Dylan. The concert raises $1 million for Clapton's drug rehab clinc in Antiqua.


2000
Nine people die and 24 are injured at Pearl Jam's portion of the Roskilde festival in Denmark after they are stampeded from people in the back who couldn't hear the show because of broken speakers. (2000)


2001
Country legend Chet Atkins, one of the most influential and widely recorded instrumentalists ever, dies of cancer at his home in Nashville. He is 77.
