Stuart Sutcliffe, the fifth Beatle, is born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He died in Germany of a brain hemorrhage at age 22.

The Beatles fly to Germany, where they will begin their last world tour. The Rolling Stones depart London the same day to begin a tour of America. Rock-crazy English fans will just have to make do with the Who, the Kinks, and Cliff Richard.

Chubby Checker is arrested after police in Niagara Falls discover marijuana and other drugs in his car. 1975 - Jefferson Starship release Red Octopus. Rolling Stone celebrates Marty Balin’s return to the fold by saying, "If it weren’t for Balin, Red Octopus would be completely unlistenable."

Alice Cooper falls from stage at a Vancouver, British Columbia, concert, breaking six ribs.

A very inebriated Keith Moon joins Led Zeppelin onstage in Los Angeles. He belts out a tympani on "Moby Dick" and "Rock and Roll," then proceeds to call John Bonham the best living rock drummer in the world today.

Judas Priest began its first U.S. tour in Oakland, CA, as the opening act for Led Zeppelin.

Keith Godchaux (Grateful Dead) died of injuries that he sustained in a car accident in Marin County, CA.

Miss America, Vanessa Williams, turned in her crown after it had been discovered that nude photos of her had appeared in Penthouse magazine. She was the first to resign the title.

Britain's Prince Andrew married Sarah Ferguson at Westminster Abbey in London. They divorced in 1996.

Madonna becomes the first celebrity to appear on the cover of Cosmopolitan since Elizabeth Taylor in 1969.

America’s greatest undead actor, Gary Busey, buys one of Buddy Holly’s guitars in auction for $242,200. Busey played the Lubbock, Texas, rocker in The Buddy Holly Story.

Production began on the film, Falling From Grace. The film marked John Mellencamp's acting and directing debut.

Copacabana, a musical based on the work of Barry Manilow, opens in London.

A son, Garrett Allan is born in Nashville to Mike and Phyllis Anderson. Mike Anderson is the bassist in John Anderson’s band.

A daughter, Francesca is born in Tarzana, Calif., to Gilby and Daniella Clarke. Gilby Clarke is the guitarist for Guns ‘N Roses.

Police in Miami Beach, FL, found the body of Andrew Cunanan. He was the suspected killer of Gianni Versace.

It was announced that Iron Maiden would have to cancel the remainder of its U.S. tour. The doctor of Blaze Bailey advised him to not sing for one month.

Michael Jackson is sued by his longtime Munich, Germany-based concert promoter Marcel Avram, who accuses the pop king of refusing to perform two scheduled Millennium Concerts.

Neil Young is honored in Toronto with a star on the Canada Walk Of Fame. The Toronto native joins prior honorees Bryan Adams, Celine Dion, Gordon Lightfoot, Rush, Christopher Plummer, Jim Carey, and director Norman Jewison.

Rapper, Ol’ Dirty Bastard (Russel Tyrone Jones) is ordered into a 180-day drug treatment program. A Los Angeles Superior Court judge decides that treatment is a better option for Jones than imprisonment for probation violations.

A statement appears on Dave Navarro's Web site claiming Jane's Addiction have split for good. "The deal is that it simply didn’t work out," it says in part. "In all honesty, we have broken up and rejoined roughly four times over the years. Perhaps that should shed some light as to where we are now."

Four people are stabbed, one fatally, at a Corrosion Of Conformity show at the Masquerade club in Ybor City, Fla. According to police, a fight between two women broke out in the mosh pit in front of the stage but spread to other members of the audience.

Robert Plant leads the bill for a June 23 benefit concert for Love principal Arthur Lee, who is battling leukemia.
