"Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay" earns Otis Redding his only gold record-three months after his death.

The world's greatest rock 'n' roll movie, Jean-Luc Godard's One Plus One, starring the Rolling Stones, opens in the U.S. The obtuse film features Godard's trademark Marxist lecturing interspersed with scenes of the Stones composing "Sympathy for the Devil." The producers later recut the footage to include more Mick and redub the movie Sympathy for the Devil. Critics remain baffled.

The 1969 Grammy Award winners are announced. The Fifth Dimension's "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In" is Record of the Year. Blood, Sweat and Tears, by the band of the same name is "Album of the Year" and Joe South's "Games People Play" is Song of the Year. Also, Crosby, Stills and Nash won the Best New Artist.


1971
First it was the Monkees, then the Archies, now the Partridge Family. On this date, TV's first fictional family of rock receives a gold record for "Doesn't Somebody Want to be Wanted." It's the second of their five Top Twenty hits.

Limp Bizkit's tour manager testifies at an inquest into a fan's death at a 2001 Australian concert. He said the show was understaffed and poorly managed.

Country artist Pat Green is hospitalized in Brownsville, Texas with multiple facial fractures after being attacked by two men on South Padre Island.

Edmund Sylvers, former lead singer of ’70s family group the Sylvers, dies after a battle with lung cancer. He is 47-years-old.

Martin Bashir, producer of the Living with Michael Jackson documentary, appears as a witness for the prosecution at the King of Pop’s child molestation trial in California, but refuses to answer questions.

Jackson 5 drummer Johnny Jackson is found stabbed to death in his Gary, Indiana, home. The Jackson family cousin, who was part of the group's live band, was 54.

Metal Underground reports: After postponing a handful of dates last week in order for guitarist Eddie Van Halen to undergo tests for an unspecified medical condition, Van Halen is postponing all tour activity until April 19. According to organizers, Van Halen, who has battled cancer and substance abuse, "is currently under doctors' care" and will "continue medical tests to define a course of treatment." No further details were made available.

TMZ reports: Reports surfaced over the weekend that Courtney Love went to the LAPD to report she’s the victim of a massive identity theft. But sources tell TMZ Courtney is simply (and possibly medically) delusional.
